Ultrasound Showed Bulky Uterus, Suggestive Of Adenomyosis. Should I Go For Hysterectomy? Try Hormone Therapy?

Hello DOCTOR !
I am a woman aged 42 years with bulky uterus in ultrasound with correlated with an mRI findings suggestive of adenomyosis, i have been having this condition since last 8 years but over last 6 months i have been having bearing down pain before , during , and after my menstural cycles, practically everyday which is grossly affecting my life. My gyanecologist has advised hysterectomy .Though I was prescribed hormones to alleviate my symptoms but i could not tolerate the side effects (giddiness, nausea) hence i needed to discontinue with in 2 days .SHOULD i again try the hormone therapy and can it actually take care of the only major symptom of pain , and delay my surgery. thanks

Hi,
Thanks for the query.

Usually medicines are not that much effective in treating adenomyosis.
Now the treatment option depends on the factor that your tolearability to symptoms.
If you are able to maintain with pain killers till your menopause, you can choose that.
If not as you are not able to take hormonal pills, the option is surgery.
Sometimes changing the brand of hormonal pills can help to some extent.
After discussing these things with your doctor you can discuss further.
