Ulcer In Toe, Fuse The Big Toe, Amputate, Callous, Cracked And Infected

I have had an ulcer on my left great toe for 1 year now. After 1 surgery and 7 hospitalizations (the last with MRSA ), I still show no progress. My Podiatrist (also a surgeon for feet and legs) wants to fuse the big toe. If that doesn t work, he wants to amputate. I have sciatic nerve damage which caused a callous. It cracked and became infected. I am not sure which way to go with this anymore.
