USG Report Showing Heterogeneous Parenchymal Echo Pattern In Liver. Should I Be Worried About The Findings?

In my USG report it is written that "Liver shows heterogenous parenchymal echopattern. Intra hepatic biliary channels are not dilated. No focal solid or cystic SOL seen (Liver span at mid clavicular line is 11.7 cm)". It is also written that "Pancreas is normal in shape and size. Echopattern is heterogenous" I am really worried of what this all means. Please help me with what I should do now.

Radiologist 's  Response
Hi,
Thanks for the referral.
Heterogenous parenchymal echotexture is a vague term and should not be usedin an USG report. We use the term homogenous parenchymal echotexture or the term 'coarse' parenchymal echotexture. 'Coarse' term is used to describe a condition called cirrhosis of liver which happens due to excessive alcohol intake (95% of the times). Cirrhosis also causes decrease in liver size which seems to be the case as the liver size is 11.7 cms which is small. Is there anything else written in the impression of the usg?
The radiologist might be meaning cirrhosis by the term heterogenous echotexture.
Please mention other details like your age, lab results if any, alcohol intake if any so that I can reply better.
Regards,

Dr. Pankaj
