Orthopaedic Surgeon, Joint Replacement 's  Response
Hello.
Thanks for posting your query.

From description it seems to be soft tissue injury, ligament injury or meniscal injury at knee.

I would suggest getting this evaluated by an orthopedician for an accurate diagnosis and appropriate management. You may get the X-ray/MRI of the area affected under his/her guidance.

Beside icing and elevating it, you can take anti-inflammatory drug like motrin to reduce pain and inflammation. Avoid putting weight and rest well.

Regards.

General & Family Physician Dr. S. Jegadeesan's  Response
Hi,
As you are able to walk no major problem will be there. The possible reasons are
1) Ligament or meniscus (inside the joint) injury
2) minimum crack any where in the bone around the knee joint especially in the patella.
X-ray Right knee joint AP View & Lateral view - Orthopaedic Surgeon's opinion - then if necessory CT or MRI. Avoid walking further unless advised
Best Wishes
