Twin Child's With Severe Cough And Running Nose. Can Eggs Be Given During Cold?

I have 5.5 year twin daughters. They have persistent cough and running nose . I have visited the paediatrician , but they said there is no congestion in the chest . Yet See them coughing and having a congested nose all the time. The cough aggravates when they run , during sleep time and also after meals . Wander what to do? Also wanted to know if I can give them eggs to eat during cold and cough.

Hi, thanks for using health care magic

With a history of persistent cough and runny nose, it is possible that they have allergic sinusitis.
You may want to consider having them tested for allergies to determine the specific triggers, this can be done by blood tests or skin prick testing.

When the specific allergen has been determined then it can be eliminated as much as possible. The use of antihistamines and topical nasal sprays can also be helpful.
The use of the eggs will not affect them unless they are allergic to them.

I hope this helps

Hi
Thanks for your query.
Your daughters are having cough and cold most of the times.it could be due to allergic sinusitis or part of viral infection
I suggest you to get them evaluated for any allergy, for which avoidance of allergen needs to be done.
Oral antihistamines can be given.
Nasal sprays will be beneficial.
Regarding eggs, they can be given unless there is no egg allergy.
Wishing your daughters good health.
God bless.

Pediatrician Dr. Y V Siva Sankara Murty's  Response
Hi,

Thanks for writing to health care magic.

You should stop only those dietary substances which recurrently produce symptoms of allergy. If the child is already having egg from a long time with out any problem you can give it. There should not be any problem with that.

Child should be evaluated for the cause of that cough. It could be a viral infection or a exercise induced asthma etc.
Continue to ask further queries.
Hope this helps.
Take care.
