Trying to conceive. Brown spotting. What is going on?

Basically I ve been getting light brown spotting for a few days now but my period is not due until the 10th. This happened last month and I thought I was pregnant but took a test and was negative. It s light at first and only happens when I wipe but I ve been wearing a panty liner and when I got to the toilet sometimes there s brown spotting on there too. I have been trying to conceive since christmas. My periods are always rather heavy and this is the complete opposite. What could this be? I m starting to get worried?

Hello ma'am.

I can underatand you are concerned and shall try my best to help. The presence of brown spotting even between your cycle along with the fact that you have heavy bleeding during your period does raise suspicion fir a few conditions, let me list them for you:
-Fibroid uterus
-Abnormalities with the inner lining of the uterus
-Hormonal imbalance
-Soon approaching menopause
-Trauma (often seen in women trying to conceive, rare; but will have to be ruled out)
And a few other causes.

I would recommend a bimanual examination, speculum examination, pap smear, hormonal level check, transvaginal ultrasound scan and a urine analysis. These investigations are all simple but will surely help in finding the cause.

Hope this helps.

Take care.
