Treatment For Pain In Lower Jaw And Ear After Replacing Filling?

hello Dr. Im having some oral mouth pain. It started Sunday. I thought it was from a tooth so I went to see my dentist Monday morning who replaced a filling I had with a medicated filling. but the same pain remains. let me explain the pain that I m feeling. Its my lower right jaw, teeth, gums, and right ear. the pain has only gotten worse since it began. after realizing it wasn t a dental issue I thought maybe it was a sinus congestion issue. so starting Tuesday I started taking sudafed congestion and Ibuprofen but still no change. the pain is really bad enough that I can t sleep, and the only thing that seems to help is running cold water inside my mouth over the area and then the pain will subside but only for a couple minutes until I have to do it again. I don t have alot of money so going to the hospital is not an option unless i know I ll get what i need to fix this. instead of blowing money on things like the dentist which turned out to be not the problem and a waste. so please can you give me your best guess on whats wrong with me and how I can best treat it.

Hi..
Welcome to HEALTHCARE MAGIC..

I have gone through your query and can understand your concern...

As per your complain and presentation of symptoms the pain in lower jaw, teeth, gums and right ear along with feeling relief with taking cold water in mouth clearly indicates that the pain is originating from tooth and it is due to inflammation of the nerves which are present in the centre of the tooth..

As you had a filled tooth there are chances that there is secondary infection in the tooth and it kept on deepening leading to infecting the nerves and causing inflammation and pain..

You should immediately consult an ENDODONTIST and get an IOPAR
[X RAY] of the tooth done and if the infection is reaching the nerves, the filling has to be removed under local anaesthesia and ROOT CANAL TREATMENT has to be initiated..
It will be followed by antibiotics and painkillers..

As of now you can take TRAMADOL 50mg three times a day as it helps in controlling severe pain..

Hope this information helps..

Thanks and regards..
