Total Knee Replacement After Knee Fracture, Knee Stiff. How To Rectify?

I am 42 and had a really bad knee fracture at the age of 14. Now years later, and multiple surgeries I had a total knee replacement at age 40. After my TKR, I developed a stiff knee and I am looking for a specialist surgeon who works on Arthofibrosis after TKR in Toronto, Canada. I have had a few manipulations and they have not worked.

Please help looking for a specialist

Orthopaedic Surgeon, Joint Replacement 's  Response
Hi, thanks for writing to HCM.

Knee stiffness will inevitably develop after multiple surgeries on the knee joint. It could be due to intraarticular or extraarticular causes. But usually it is the result of fibrosis in the soft tissues outside the knee joint.

You cannot expect a full range of motion in the knee joint with any mode of treatment. Physiotherapy in the form of stretching & strengthening of the soft tissues may help to some extent.

Hope this information is helpful. Good day

Orthopaedic Surgeon, Joint Replacement Dr. Saurabh Gupta's  Response
Hi,

Close follow-up should be performed. As the treatment options diminish with the chronicity of the condition, these at-risk patients should be seen sooner after TKR. Whereas in general, we see patients 6 weeks after TKR, we will see the at-risk patient at 3 to 4 weeks postoperatively.

Manipulation under anesthesia is the first tool in the armamentarium of dealing with postoperative TKR stiffness. It can be effective in managing limited flexion.

You should visit your surgeon again and get it evaluated.
I do hope that you have found something helpful and Informative.
