Total Knee Replacement. Prosthesis In Place. Doctor Advised Prednisone For Ibfectio. RA And Osteo Arthritis. Suggestion?

I had total knee replacement two years ago on both of my knees at OHSU in Portland Oregon about 3 hrs away. My problem is I have went back to that surgeon and to one other in Eugene and they take an xray to see that the prosthesis is in place and do noting further for me. Now my left knee will. Prosthesis is in plla hardly work and hurt so bad and is turned outward. I was so bad Monday I could not walk on it and went to my RA doctor who feels I have an infection and put me on antibiotics and prednisone - I can walk a little now but still the pain is not good. I have RA and Osteo Arthritis. What would you suggest?

Hi and thanks for the query,
I do think if the X ray showed a good position and alignment of the bone and prosthesis, the advice of the doctor should be followed. It is critical to manage this infection, and I am afraid this usually takes some time, and requires much compliance for remarkable effects to be obtained. Poorly treated, this could lead to osteomyelitis, which could cause a long lasting chronic pain. Steroids are important on order to relief pain, and are suited in this case, since they shall also aid in relieving the pain due to Rheumatoid Arthritis. Kind regards as I hope this helps.
