Torn Ligaments In The Back After Lifting Heavy Objects. Pain In The Lower Back And Burning In Legs. Are These Related?

i have a problem with my back. 20 years ago i injured my back by lifting heavy chemicals. results were torn ligament in the lower back, and degenerated disc. i have bad pain in my lower back and my legs burn or feel like a bumble bee sting here and there on my upper legs. could this be a result of me injuring my back 20 years ago? its very hard for me to work anymore.

Orthopaedic Surgeon 's  Response
Hello.
Thanks for writing to us.
The symptoms you are having are due to nerve root compression caused by the degenerative disc disease.
Bed rest, muscle relaxants, pain killers, physiotherapy, using an appropriate size L-S contour belt are the mainstay of treatment.
I hope this information has been both informative and helpful for you.
