Toddler With Mucus In Stool And Fever. Now Has Swollen And Bleeding Gums, Could The Two Conditions Be Related?

My 22 month old son went to the doctor today for fever, diarrhea and cold symptoms. They said he seemed okay but are testing a stool sample because they were concerned about lots of mucus in his BMs. Tonight, when trying to brush his teeth, I noticed that his gums are swollen, purple-red and bleeding. Is it possible that the gum bleeding is related to his other symptoms, or is it some separate gum disease? I'm feeling terrible because I haven't been as pushy about thoroughly brushing his teeth every day as I should (he hates it).

HI
Thank for asking to HCM
The bleeding gums and the diarrhoea are two separate conditions and not related with one another, the bleeding gums could be because of forceful brushing I would advise you to try your finger for few days instead of using brush, this will come around and even after this it is still bleeding then it may need some investigation, the vitamin C deficiency is likely, have nice day.
