Toddler With Cold, Runny Nose And Bumps On Base Of Neck, Diagnosed As Cyst. Suggestion?

2 years old girl with a cold, runny nose , slight fever, with 2 little swollen bumps that feel soft to the touch, makes her feel uncomfortable when we touch, on the base of neck, at the bottom of ear... she has one little bump on her right side of forehead since 9 month old, doctor said it s a little liquid filled cyst..not to touch, it stayed like that till now. wondering if these new ones are same type of cysts , or from a virus, the cold ( lymph node..)???

Hi, thanks for using healthcare magic

It is quite possible that the masses or bumps that you feel are lymph nodes. Lymph nodes are present at different points of the body and respond to inflammation or infection based on where they are located.
Cervical lymph nodes (nodes in the neck) are commonly enlarged in children because of the frequent colds that they experience. The common cold involves infection of the nasal passages, throat and ears and these nodes drain most of these areas.

Normally they would resolve a few days to weeks after the infection has settled. This is provided another cold does not occur.
You can consider noting the size and location and re checking 2 to 3 weeks after this cold once she does not have another infection.

I hope this helps and she feels better soon
