Tightness In Throat, Constant Need To Swallow, Conversation Gets Difficult. What May Be Wrong?

I have a question about a tightness in my throat I’ve been having for quite some time. I feel like I am producing more saliva then usual and I have constant swallowing due to this. When I swallow I don’t feel like I am able to completely swallow all my saliva and therefore my reflex is to swallow again. My throat is really tight and almost feels tired from so much swallowing. I find that I am burping a great deal too due to the constant swallowing. Sometimes when I burp I feel a bit of relief from the tightness. It makes it difficult to hold a conversation with others at times because the reflex to swallow gets in the way. Please let me know if there is any advise you can give. Thanks!

Psychiatrist 's  Response
Hello,
welcome to Healthcare Magic.

Your problems are uncommon. It is difficult to pin point reason of your without evaluation. I would like to consider multiple possibilities in your case in following hierarchy:
•     Acidity: lead to increase saliva secretion
•     Infection of oral mucosa
•     Anxiety disorder: need to be rule out by detailed interview by psychiatrist
•     Vitamin deficiency: Get serum B12 level. Start multi vitamins as they are easily available.
•     Side effect of substance use: stop use if present

It is better to get yourself evaluated by general physician to rule out above causes and then seek consultation according to his recommendation.

Wish you good health and all the best.

Hi friend,
Welcome to Health Care Magic

These features are highly suggestive of anxiety.
Yet it is better to be investigated and anxiety be an exclusion diagnosis..
You have not stated your age, gender, personal habits, family history or co-morbidities
Consult a gastro-enterologist - have an endoscopy to rule out pathology of oesophagus and stomach... / Consult ENT specialist to rue out allergy and infection - more to rule out and reassure....

Take care
Wishing speedy recovery
God bless
Good luck
