Thumb Nail And Toe Nail Grows Inward, Fungus

My fingernails. especially the thumb nails, are thick and growing inwards. It looks like it is going to start cutting into the skin. I have the same problem with my toe nails...look like claws because the nail has grown inward and squeezed the skin. I have always thought that I inherited toenail fungus from my mother as she has the same type of toenails. But, I never dreamed it would move into my fingernails. I really believe it is a fungus but dont know what to do. Help please!
