Throbbing, Painful Spasm In Thumb. Could This Be Blood Clot?

I just had a REALLY painful spasm in my left thumb, what felt like a vein in my thumb. It was *throbbing* with what felt like the PAIN level of a sharp pain, but was slightly dull because of how it felt like it was a vein throbbing. The pain triggered the instantaneous thought of blood clott? heart attack? if that helps describe how it hurt. I rubbed it vigorously and it is dying down. I did that because I thought that could help a blood clott? It was so painful. And out of nowhere. I am 22 Male and I probably do not have heart failure...... but I am around 267 pounds and I am only 5 foot 11. I have high blood pressure as well.

Orthopaedic Surgeon 's  Response
Hello.
Thanks for writing to us.
The throbbing and a painful spasm in the thumb can be due to a vascular compromise or a nerve root irritation. An electrolyte imbalance or Vitamin B 12 deficiency can also result in such symptoms.
I hope this information has been both informative and helpful for you.
