Thigh Hurt, Soft Tissue Damage, Fluid Pocket Above Knee, Numb, Burning Pain On Touching. How To Remove Fluid?

Hello Dr.

I fell of my dirt bike 4 days ago and landed hard on the outside right thigh. Immediately there was fluid on the outside half appox. 8" above the knee and the face of the thigh (skin surface not through out) became numb to the touch. The fluid pocket moves around when manipulated by my hand and seems quite "watery" When I stand up it is approx. the size of half of a small grapefruit. My leg has good range of motion and it is not too uncomfortable when I walk however if I distend it or press down too hard on the area it gives me sharp burning pain....thinking some nerve damage? Please advise on the fluid? Should I wait until Tuesday to see the specialist. The NP at emergency on Monday said blunt force soft tissue damage and it would take time. Thank You.

HI, thanks for using healthcare magic

Fluid accumulates at the sight of trauma as part of the body's inflammatory response.
It can take up to a week for the swelling to resolve completely.

The area may also become firm or hard as part of the healing process. This is due to the formation of scar tissue or fibrosis.

You can consider the use of anti inflammatory pain medications such as ibuprofen, cataflam, aspirin.

I hope this helps
