Thick, Smelly Discharge From Mouth. Concerned

Hi Doc. Every now and the(actually 3 times now in a space of a year or so), i wake up during the night and some thick smelly fluids are coming out of my mouth and my pillow will be wet. At that moment i can feel some of it in my chest , probably in the esophagus (not sure though). I have not gone to see a doctor but i m getting concerned because these days i can feel the fluids in my stomach . What could this be and if its related to my diet , what would you recommend i avoid? Thanks.

Hi
welcome to HCM
if you have hiatus hernia i.e protrusion of upper part of stomach into thorax then the gastric content may come out through esopahgus. If you have adenoids or allergic bronchitis that can also secrets more mucous. if you have any gums problem or teeth problems then that can also stimulate more saliva secretion that can comes out during sleeping.
Thank you

Hi Mtokozisimlotshwa,

I would suggest you to go to an ent specialist, get ur throat checked, get a lung function test and a chest x-ray done. You mentioned foul smell, there is some infection which you need to investigate.
