Testosterone In Axilla Area. High Platelets Count. What Is The Cause?

I have a question about my father. He was taking the testosterone that you put in the axillia area for about 5 months. His doctor then called and told him to stop it completely and go give blood cause his platelets were way to high. I would like to know if this possible for the testosterone to do this or if in fact there could be an underlying cause to the increase in platelets?

hi,
testosterone is known to cause platelets aggregation, so if there is an increase in number also, which makes individuals at higher risk for stroke, heart attacks. thus platelets have to be reduced and testosterone have to be stopped sometimes.

he has to evaluated for other causes of increased platelets. testosterone is known to increase platelets in those with count, but in normal individual i only causes increased aggregation, making risk for other diseases.

causes of increased thrombocytes are
Essential thrombocytosis (a form of myeloproliferative disease)
Other myeloproliferative disorders such as chronic myelogenous leukemia, polycythemia vera, myelofibrosis

Reactive (secondary)

Inflammation
Surgery (which leads to an inflammatory state)
Splenectomy
Asplenia (absence of normal spleen function)

wishing him good health
