Tested Positive For Diabetes. On Diamicron, Gluformin. Fasting Sugar 147. Right Medication?

Hi,
My Mother is law is 62 years old (90kg). She was tested positive with diabetes with fasting sugar 280 last week.
Doctor has recommended her DIAMICRON XR 60 before breakfast and GLUFORMIN 1000 after dinner.
Today morning when we tested her fasting sugar, it was 147.

I would like to know if medicines prescribed by the doctor are accurate. Also when her sugar levels will be back to normal ?

Hi ! Good evening. I am Dr Shareef answering your query.

The coming down of the fasting sugar level from 280mg% last week to 147mg% today shows that the medicines prescribed by your doctor are effective. Usually no doctor would like to bring down the sugar level very fast in diabetics because of the fear of hypoglycemia. So you have to give time to your treating doctor for gradually bringing down the sugar level to normal.

Usually the sugar level in Diabetics with medications is kept a little towards higher side of normal than low. Your doctor may also change the dosage of the anti diabetic medication by repeated monitoring the blood sugar level, both fasting and post prandial.
