Tested Positive For Epithelial And Rare For Bacteria. What Does It Mean? Severe Pain Under Rib And Spine.
I tested postive (11-20) Epithelial and Rare for Bactiria, and 322 for Lipase. I have horrific pain under right rib wrapping around to the back of my spine. I had ultra sound done of area but I can t seem to get results from them so meanwhile I want to know what these test results mean.
Hi, thank you for asking Healthcare Magic. Since you have not precised the test that came out positive with epithelial cells, I presume it was urinalysis. Most often, the presence of epithelial cells in urine indicates contamination from urethra but in rare cases it may result from some conditions affecting the kidneys (acute tubular necrosis or malignancies). Normally, urine does not contain bacteria. The value for Lipase level is high and taking into consideration the type of pain you are feeling, it could be possible that you have an inflammation of the pancreas (pancreatitis). Other conditions that can cause that kind of pain and also increase Lipase levels include gallstones and inflammation of gallbladder (cholecystitis). An ultrasound would definitely give the diagnosis and if it is not possible, a CT scan might be needed.
