Teenager Having Horrible Behaviour And Outburst, Having A Regular Period Cycle. Is It A Hormonal Imbalance?

My Sister has a daughter who is 16 and for the past 12 months she has been absolutely horrible with her behaviour and outburst. She has had her periods for about the same time and were wondering if such a thing as hormonal inbalance may cause, irrational outburst. she gets very worked up about some small things and just goes into a rage. She will eventually calm down and then acts like nothing has happened. Her school work is also falling behind and now being in yr 12, it has become difficult. There may be more that just hormones here as well, but just thought I d ask the question. thanks

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello dear,

There are lots of hormonal changes which occur in the body of a female during this age.
So, her behaviour & outbursts can be attributed to it.
To rule out any pathological cause, it will be better to get a thyroid profile done.

Other reasons for her symptoms can be:
1. Anemia- decrease in blood formation due to deficiency of Iron, Vit B12, Folic acid, etc.
2. Stress- either in family or educational matters.

So, kindly consult your Physician and get a proper clinical examination done.
And try talking to her when she is calm and try to find out if she is having any problem which needs to be solved.
There is no need to worry, she will be fine.

Wishing her a good health.
Take care.
