Teenager Gets Lightheaded While Getting Up From Couch. BP Slighlty High. Any Cause Of Concern ?

My grandson is 13 years old and weighs about 150 lbs, is about 5'6". Recently, on occasions, he will get up from the couch and says he is lightheaded. I took his blood pressure last night and it was 101 over 36. A nurse told my daughter not to worry about it unless it continues. I just wanted to get another opinion.

HI, thanks for using healthcare magic

If there is history of recurrent episodes of dizziness then he should be evaluated.

This would involve history ,examination and any relevant investigations. The doctor will check his sitting and standing blood pressures and pulse, do an ENT examination, cardiovascular examination and some aspects of a neurological examination.
The standing and sitting blood pressures will determine if there is a drop in blood pressure when he stands.

This is called orthostatic hypotension and there are different causes.

The treatment would depend on the cause.

I hope this helps
