Teenager. Ulcers On Tonsils, Inflammed Tonsils Followed By Backache, Fever. Detected Viral Tonsilitis. Suggested Paracetamol, Lozenges. Thoughts?

Hi, I'm 17 and am really worried about my throat. I don't usually go to the doctors with a sore thoat as antibiotics are not always te answer and I am aware of this. But I had some Alcers on my tonsils and my tonsils are largely inflamed and this seems to be getting worse daily. Since Monday. For a couple of days I had a fever and a bad back and I visited to doctors who said it is viral tonsillitis and cannot be treated except from paracetamol and lozenges but it is getting worse and I'm finding It very painful to breath and talk at the moment. I'm worried it is bacterial tonsillitis or glandular fever, what should I do?

Hi Dear
Welcome to the HCM
To rule out the cause of tonsillitis we should undergo some investigations like CBC, ESR ,Throat swab culture and sensitivity.
Raised TLC and ESR will point towards the bacterial etiology.
Throat swab culture will confirm the exact bug to be treated.
If the symptoms are increasing like you mentioned, all seems to be some bacterial pathology. In my opinion one should immediately start some relevant antibiotic to check the flaring of the infection .
One should always not fear of antibiotics . Antibiotics are life saving in many instances.
Regular Throat gargles with some antiseptic solution helps in reducing the infection load both bacterial and viral.
Hope the query is answered.
Thanks
