Teenager. Healthy Lifestyle. Have Gynaecomastia. Any Non Surgical Remedy?

Doctor i am 18 years old, suffering from gynaecomastia. I used to take protien supplements since I was 16 and stopped consuming it since past 7 months as I read that such supplements cause gynaecomastia. I think I am suffering since 2 years. Is there any chance that it can get cured on its own ? If not then please do suggest a non-surgical remedy that would be effective. It has started to cause distress and build inferiority complex in me.
I do not smoke nor do i consume alcohol. I am a non-vegeterian and not at all obese. I do my work outs regularly.
Thanking you in anticipation.

Hello and welcome to HCM,

Gynaecomastia is problem seen in young adolescent boys.
The cause of gynaecomastia is hormonal changes that take place during adolescence.
Protein intake is not known to cause gynaecomastia.
Protein intake causes muscle build.
Consult your doctor for clinical examination.
Surgery is the only modality to correct gynaecomastia.
You need to consult a surgeon for the surgery.

Thanks and take care

Hi thanks for your question.
Gynaecomastia occur in male around puberty and its normal physiological process. It is due to small amount of female sex hormone which is produced in male also.As age increases gynaecomasis disappears in male.Yes gynaecomastia is the side effects of the protein supplement you took,You have do nothing for gnnaecosmastia. With increasing age ,hopefully it will disappear within 1 to 2 years. If it remained persistent for few years ,then it will need surgical correction..
Hope this answers your question.

General & Family Physician Dr. B. Vineet Mohan's  Response
Hi,

I want to explain how gynecomastia occurs first of all. The mechanism is that there is increased estrogen which is not degraded by the liver and this causes the estrogen to be high and cause you to have gynecomastia. Now I will list the causes of this:

Hypogonadism
Aging
Tumors
Hyperthyroidism
Kidney failure
Liver failure and cirrhosis
Malnutrition and starvation
Neonatal breast development

Some other causes are drugs and too much alcohol. If you have none of the above causes, then you need to meet a doctor who will tell you why you have it. Then he can tell you the right treatment. I hope this helps.
