Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
My daughter is 16 years old. She has been having slight chest pains with a rapid heart beat. Also she s been having shortness of breath. She started doing cross country and this is when it started. But the other day it happened while she was on the computer. She wasnt doing anything. She has an appointment for next week, but Im worried.
Chest pain, palpitations and shortness of breath can occur as a result of (1) anemia/low red cell mass , this would be diagnosed by examination and full blood count- treatment would depend on the type and cause of the anemia(2) abnormal thyroid levels- high level of thyroid hormones can result in these symptoms (3) heart disease- an ECG will likely be done to assess the rhymth and rate of the heart, any enlargement or areas of reduced blood supply (4) anxiety- anxiety/stress can also result in these problems but this is a diagnosis of exclusion
I hope everything works out for you
