Taking Sulpitac. Gaining Weight. Is The Medicine Right?

Dear Doc,
My husband is taking sulpitac tablet 1 per day for the past 8 months. He is considering that if he intake the tablet
it will reduce his tension and anger. He use to take more one when is tensed, he use to tell his opinion twice or trice if we are listening or obeying him he used to get tensed, start shouting and most use break mobile phones, spectacles, tv remote which ever is in his hand. And after few mins he will be normal and come and say sorry for what he has done and try to make everyone understand what he really meant to convey.

Now he is gaining on weight.

Pls suggest me whether sulpitac is the right medicine for his problems.

Am very much worried about the side effects.

Regards,

General & Family Physician 's  Response

Hello,
SULPITAC ( AMISULPRIDE ) is used in treating psychosis in schizophrenia and is also used for bipolar disorders.
Nausea, weight gain, anxiety, agitation, insomnia are its known side effects.
It would be best on your part to consult a psychiatrist and get him evaluated properly.
Any medication should be withdrawn or given to him should be done by the psychiatrist only.
Thanks
