Taking Lisinopril Caused Anaphylactic Shock, Drop In BP, Lips And Tongue Swelled, Collapsed On Floor

My husband has been taking lisinopril for 5 years. Tuesday this medicine caused his to have anaphylatic shock. His bood pressure dropped to 60/40. This was a allergic reaction to this medicine, by elimination what he ate that morning and his medicines he takes. His lips and tongue swelled big and he had like a siezure and collapsed on the floor. The squad came to the house to get him , he was in the emergency room most of the day trying to the swelling down and his blood pressure up, then they moved him up to intensive care for the night and next day. He came home today having to continue on steriods and to carry an epet pin. We got the the lisinopril from walmart pharmacy. My question who is resposible for this kind of medicine? Do we have a law suite. If I had not been home Tues. my husband would have lost his life. e-mail YYYY@YYYY

Hello

Thanks for the query

Lisinopril is an ACE inhibitor, such severe reactions are known to occur with these drugs. However it is difficult to tell who is going to react this way as no test dose can be given for oral medications. Such reactions can also occur in patients who are already on these drugs, for example I had a patient on lisinopril and he developed this reaction after 8 years of using it. It is an essential drug, it protects the kidneys, heart, lowers blood pressure, etc.

I am happy your husband is doing well now. I wish him good health

Regards
