Psychiatrist 's  Response
Hi angie,

From the history you provide there seems to be complications of agitation and suspiciousness/paranoid ideas in addition to depression. The diazepam (valium) and alprazolam (xanax) can calm you down temporarily in acute agitation but this is not the only treatment for the problem you should be receiving. Do not take them without supervision. Overdosing is a danger with this drug.

It is really nice to see how you seem to have an insight into your illness and are able to distinguish reality from your imagination. You will need to see your psychiatrist as soon as possible. After examining you he may add an antipsychotic in your regimen and also optimize your antidepressant.

Hope this helps,
Dr A Rao
