Taking Escitalopram. Bruise Type Spot On Skin Below Eye. Side Effects?

I have been taking Escitalopram now for just under 3 weeks. Today I noticed a purplish bruise type looking spot on my skin just below my brow bone on my eye. It almost looks like I'm wearing purple eye shadow. If I pull the skin up to look closer, it is much darker than it looks from far away..kind of veiny. I am 29 years old, and I've never had a spot like this before. Could this be a side effect?

Internal Medicine Specialist 's  Response
Hi,
Welcome to HCM,
Escitalopram is an antidepressant of the selective serotonin reuptake inhibitor (SSRI) class.
The bruise may or may not be related to effect of this drug, Hematologic side effects are infrequent, Thrombocytopenia that is low platelet count can occur rarely.
There can be trivial trauma which caused the bruise, or if you are taking any anti platelet agent like aspirin or other analgesics of NSAID group,or anticoagulant?
Please report it to your treating physician to examine to know exact cause of it then it can be treated .
If required blood count specially platelet count may be done.
You can apply cold pack to get some relief. and if it is blood under skin ointment of heparin may be given by your Physician to recover fast.
Hope this is useful to you.
Take care.
Good Luck.
