Taking Afinitor For Pain In Jaw Where Root Canal Was Done.Taken Tylenol 2. Considering Tylenol 3. Any Side Effects?

At present I am taking the drug Afinitor...in the past few days I have developed severe pain in my lower jaw where a root canal was done about 7 years ago. I went to the dentist and they said the tooth is OK and gave me some antibiotic pills to get rid of the infection...I have only been taking them for about 1.5 days but still have the pain so I have been taking extra strength tylenol (2 every 4 hrs)...sometimes this works and sometimes it doesn't...I am also using a cold compress on the area but am still not getting much relief. I am now considering taking some Tylenol 3 (with codeine)! Do you think this poses any problems in interaction with the Afinitor.

Hello,
Thanks for posting your query.
The pain at the site of root canal treated tooth, may be due to re-infection.
I would suggest you to visit a dentist and get re-rct or extraction of tooth done ,depending on the severity of tooth infection.
Take complete course of antibiotics-analgesics prescribed.
Brush and floss your teeth daily.
Rinse your mouth after every meals.
Visit a dentist in every 6 months.
Take care.

hello
pain in the area below treated rct tooth refers to reinfection
what i would suggest is that you get a radiograph done and if the tooth can be saved then have a re root canal done or else get the tooth extracted
as far as your medication is concerned antibiotics take around 2-3 days to have proper coverage...so your pain will subside in a day or two
also u can try luke warm saline rinses 4-6 times daily ,that will reduce the pain
do visit your dentist as early as possible
take care

Hi,

Thanks for asking the query,

According to your clinical symptoms i suppose that you have developed re-infection in your root canal treated tooth.
Analgesics will give a temporary relief.
I would suggest you to visit to the Dentist and get an x-ray done re-RCT has to be performed.
Take the course of antibiotics and analgesics under the prescription of your Dentist only.
At home take lukewarm saline and antispetic mouthwash rinses.

Hope this helps out,

Regards...

Dentist Dr. Souranjita Chattopadhyaya's  Response
Hello,

Welcome to HCM,

I think your root canal treated tooth has been re-infected...thatswhy you are having pain....

First proper x-ray is required to be confirmed...then you have to go for either re-rct or extraction...

As such there is no interaction between afinitor and tylenol...

Afinitor is a potent immunosupressant...so there is no need to take of that medicine...

Medicine will give you temporary relief but the cause has to be treated...

Meanwhile do warm saline rinses 7-8times/day...that will give relief...

Consult with Dentist....

Get well soon...
