I have started to take Actonel 4 months ago. I have Osteoporosis and am 60 years old. I have a diet of lean meat, fruit and vegies. I take vitamins,- D, multi, B, fish oil. and glucosamine. I am 60 yrs. old, 5'4'' and 12o lbs. I also work out 4xs a week. My Dr. says it's hereditary as my mom had it and so do my 3 sisters. I have broken my ankle 3 wks ago,(lateral maleolus) Should I stop taking Actonel?

Hello,

I have studied your case with diligence.

At age of 60 there can be degenerative wear of bones, muscles, ligament and loss of elasticity of muscles, due to deficiency of calcium, vitamin D, VIT B12 and carnitine.so supplements of these nutrients can relieve pain.

Check your bone strength with DEXA SCAN and you can start medication according to level of osteoporosis,
You need to start supplement of calcium with vitamin D, vit B12, and if osteoporosis is severe then bisphophonates [actonel ] can be continued for 2 years.
I will advise you to do regular physiotherapy and exercises as my patients find much relief by these therapies.

You need to take diet rich in calcium and vitamin D.

Hope this answers your query. If you have additional questions or follow up queries then please do not hesitate in writing to us. I will be happy to answer your queries.

Wishing you good health.

Take care
