Swollen Lymph Nodes. No Ear Or Throat Infection. Extreme Fatigue, Sweating, Itching After Intake Of Prescribed Steroids. Solution?

Hi, I am a 57 year old female. I have had swollen nymph nodes for over 3 months. Been on antibiotics, had a scan on my neck, seen an ENT and he noted that I had no Ear infection, no throat infection but he stuck me on steroids. I have been suffering from extreme fatigue, sweating, at times extreme itching. I have no energy and need to get my life back to normal. What should be my next step.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi and sorry to hear about these disturbing symptoms you have been having.

From the information you have provided, there are several other causes of swollen lymph nodes beside infections. Though infections are the most common cause, when they are ruled out other causes should be considered. Putting you on steroids without any clear diagnosis may only delay active efforts to address the problem before it gets out of control.

At this time, I will suggest that your doctor considers removing one of the lymph nodes for examination. This will give definite answers or clues as to what the real problem is. If nothing worrisome is found, then it would be ore comforting accepting the condition the way it is.

Hope you find this helpful..
Wish you well in this process.
