Hi and sorry to hear about these disturbing symptoms you have been having. From the information you have provided, there are several other causes of swollen lymph nodes beside infections. Though infections are the most common cause, when they are ruled out other causes should be considered. Putting you on steroids without any clear diagnosis may only delay active efforts to address the problem before it gets out of control. At this time, I will suggest that your doctor considers removing one of the lymph nodes for examination. This will give definite answers or clues as to what the real problem is.
