Swollen Leg, Itching, Red After Spider Bite. Would Antibiotic Help?

My right leg is swollen. I got bitten by a spider. I put some antishan cream on it many times. but it did not help. I went to the Hospital and was given Antibiotic. But I can see that both of my legs are now swelling. The swelling on the right foot (inject bite) is painful, red and tender and intching sometimes with darker skin at the inject bite spot. Should I worry? Would the antibiotic help?

Infectious Diseases Specialist 's  Response
HI There,
Welcome to HCM.
Insect bites usually cause severe allergic reaction where there is local swelling at the site of bite with redness, itching and ooze.Such cases are treated with antiallergic drugs to decrease the itching and swelling, anti inflammatory drugs to reduce the redness and pain, antibiotics are prescribed to prevent further infection of the insect bite. So they definitely help. Please complete the course of antibiotics prescribed. If no other medications have been given, I suggest you get in touch with your doctor for analgesics and anti allergic tablets. Thanks.
