Swelling In Left Ear, Sores. Prescribed Hot Compress. Causes For Swelling?

My left ear from time to time swells up on the outside or portion that can be seen. It also has a sore develop...went to my doctor last time she said to just use a hot compress and the swelling will go away? It happened about 4 years ago...but it happened about 3 months ago...and its starting today again too...any ideas??

Hi I am Dr A.K.Srivastava (E.N.T.specialist) read your problum I suspect you are having recurrent attacks of perichondritis of your left ear pinna,you are adviced to go for your blood sugar done to rule out associated diabetes for recurrent infection,and to consult your E.N.T.specialist to ruleout any local pathology in your left pinna of ear.I hope you are now clear about your probelum, If still any doubt you are most welcome to consult the site again.
