Swelling In Back Of Neck, Difficulty In Moving Neck And Plugged Ears After Falling Down. What Could This Be?

I fell backwards yesterday and hit my head on pavement while walking dog. I was fine yesterday however today, the back of my neck is swollen at base of skull, can barely move my neck side to side, shoulders are tense, right ear plugged. Whatcha think? I'm a healthy 37 yr old female, no pre existing conditions, healthy weight.

HI, thanks for using healthcare magic

After an injury has occurred, it may take 24 to 36 hours for some persons to start feeling discomfort. This is the reason that you are feeling the pain and tightness at this stage.
Your doctor will likely consider the use of a anti inflammatory pain killer such as aspirin, cataflam, ibuprofen, celebrex, naproxen. These should be taken on a full stomach.

A muscle relaxant would also be helpful. This would require a prescription from your doctor.

There are certain indications for imaging after head trauma, there are: (1) headache (2)vomiting (3)age over 60 (4)alcohol or drug addiction (5) persistent short term memory (6)seizure (7)visible trauma above the clavicle
Because of the swelling your doctor may consider imaging.

I hope this helps
