Swelling Around The Open Wound. Suggested Treatment?
Hi Samuel - My son sustained an open wound on Friday night about the size of a small fingernail and about a centimeter deep - treated with betadin. He went to a zoo today and has raised swelling around the area about the radius of an egg. No red lines around it or running anywhere else. Suggested treatment? Regards Mark

Hello and welcome to HCM,
The open wound that your son sustained has to be managed further by application of topical antibiotic.
Betadiene is an antiseptic. It will prevent any further infection of the wound however; it will not treat the infection which is already present in the wound.
Raised swelling indicates presence of infection in the wound.
It is advisable to consult a GP for clinical examination, application of topical antibiotic and dressing if required.
If pain is present, analgesic (pain killer) can be taken.
