Suggested Test Vit B12 For Severe Leg, Ankle, Foot Pain And On Selcal And Carnisure, Evion. Result 268pg /ml. Any Medicine Required For B12?

My original question:\

I had severe lower leg pain, ankle and foot pain since 20 days.
I am found with Vitamin D deficincy of 17 ng/ml.
Doctor prescribed Selcal CT 500 for 3 months & Carnisure 500 & Evion 400 for one month each.
Am I on right direction in taking these medicines?
Am worried.
Pl advise.

Advise form Dr Vaibhav Gandhi:

Good line of treatment. Continue the same. Suggest to test Vit B 12 level.

My present question:

AS suggested by doctor, I I took Vit B12 test.

The result is 268 pg/ml.

Please advise if this necessitates me to take any medicine for B12.
If so suggest me the medicine with dose and duration of intake.
Thanks

Hello,
Your treatment seems to be inadequate.
Your VIT D levels are very low and VIT B 12 levels are also not desirable and are on lower side.
Carry on with medications prescribed to you and add following...
Take VIT D supplement 60000 units every week for 8 weeks and then every fortnight for 8 weeks and then every month for at least 2 years.
Take inj,VIT B 12 every alternate days for 8-10 injections and then once every month.
I hope the symptoms should settle in 3-4 weeks time.
Talk to your doctor for the proper prescription of these medicines after discussing with him.
Thanks

Orthopaedic Surgeon, Joint Replacement Dr. K. Naga Ravi Prasad's  Response
Hi, thanks for writing to HCM.

Keep taking all the prescribed medicines and along with them take daily supplementation of vitamin D3 as your values are low (17ng/ml) which indicates deficiency.

Vitamin B12 supplementation is not needed as your level (268pg/ml) doesn't indicate deficiency. Normal range of Vit B12 is 200-900pg/ml.

Hope this information is helpful. Good day
