Hello, Recently, I have been diagnosed with polycystic ovarian syndrome. After speaking with my doctor about my treatment for this condition, she suggested that I could start treatment with metformin. I have looked further into this medication and wonder what its benefits are for this syndrome? I have read that I am at higher risk of developing type 2 diabetes because of this diagnosis but see no reason as to why metforming could benefit me now if I am not diabetic? I also have excessive hair growth on my stomach, back, legs, buttocks and genital area and have started to grow hair on my chest and face - something that is getting me down considerably and greatly affects my confidence. I have been on an oral contraceptive pill known to reduce the hair growth, thickness and speed but this doesn t really solve the problem. Are there any alternative treatments I can have apart from laser surgery which are available on the NHS or are low in cost? I have heard of some women having injections which have worked brilliantly for them but I am not sure what this treatment is. Thank you for your time. Grace Hawkins
