Dear , This is Dr. S.Tomar from healthcaremagic.com's medical team and I will be your medical adviser for this question. Thank you for sharing your concern with us and showing trust on us.
Most of the neck pain issues are selflimiting and responds well to selfcare and physical therapy . Following measures for such degenerative neck pain are recommended :
1. neck immobilization with help of soft collar in guidance of your healthcare provider .
2. life style modifications are necessary in order to improve pain and progression .
3. physical therapy is main part of treatment and regular sessions should be taken in order to get permanent relief .
4. Medications like NSAIDs, muscle relaxants , opioids , antidepressants , steroids are used to treat such pains , if one does not work then should be changed to another group .
5. isometric neck strengthening exercises , neck /shoulder stretch and back strengthening exercise should be a part of daily routine and should be learned well first with physiotherapist .
Most of the neck pains resolves with above mentioned self care and interventions . A few cases who does not respond to any conservative , pharmacological treatment should consult further for surgical care for anatomic correction of degenerative changes and decompression of nerve roots .
Thank you for your question and feel free to contact us further for any query or follow up.
sincerely,
