General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,
I understand your concern.
*The stitches given by plain catgut ( self dissolving stitches) also sometimes fail to cause approximation of wound edges & healing. This usually follows collection of body fluid ( serum) at the stitch level-may get inflamed, infected & remain unhealed.
* Many a times proper cleaning, dressing with antibiotic powder/ointment. Not keeping it wet/soiled by water, excreta/ not itching it -causes healing of a single stitch.
- some times doctor needs to prescribe antibiotic, anti inflammatory drugs along with dressing. Vitamin B complex & C help healing.
- when there is no healing with above majors, re suturing is done.
Thanks.
