Hi,I am Dr. Prabhakar Koregol (Cardiologist). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Hi, I think I have high BP. When I measure at home it is normally 125/85. I have tried various instruments and most readings are consistent. However when I go to a doctor the readings shoot up to 110/85-90. I don t know if this is white coat hypertension..how can one tell? Also when I take BP medicine , very small dose , 25mg of atenolol, I somehow feel better and my heart beat slows from 75-80 to 65-70. Is it dangerous to take BP medicine without having BP?
Hi welcome to HCM, Raise in your blood pressure at hospital is suggestive of White coat hypertension.Monitor your BP daily for 2-3 weeks without taking any medication,if its consistently high above 120/80 mm Hg then you can be considered as borderline Hypertensive . Anti anxiety drugs will be helpful in your case rather than Atenelol .So discuss with your doctor.Exercise regularly.Breathing exercises and music therapy should be practiced.Drink plenty of fluids.Fruits like apple and pomegranate are helpful in reducing your BP.Get investigations like ECG,lipid profile, chest x ray as a part of screening of your heart.Consult your cardiologist for further queries and expert management. Thank you.
