Suggest Treatment To Bring Down TSH Level And High BP
my husband was feeling uneasy for amonth. despite regular walks he was gaining weight. got thyroid checked.Tsh level was quite high. since a week he was experiencing a little numbness in right toes .today he got his bp checked . it was130/180. what shall we do now?
Hi, High TSH level and weight gain despite lifestyle modification are suggestive of primary hypothyroidism. You need to do a thyroid hormone (T3, T4) estimation to confirm your diagnosis and anti thyroid antibodies (blood tests) to find out the cause of hypothyroidism. This condition is treated with thyroid hormone replacement - the initial dose depends on your weight and level of TSH. You can check the thyroid function tests after 6 weeks of initiation of medications and optimize your thyroxine dose. You can recheck your BP and confirm you have hypertension. You BP has to be brought below 140/90 mm hg by lifestyle modification (Low salt diet, exercise) and - if not controlled- by antihypertensive medications.
