Suggest Treatment For Yeast Infection And STD

Hi! I had an odd question and was wondering if you could help me. For the past few years I have had an odor coming from my vagina and lots of stinging/burning inside of it and around it. I ve been to the doctors several times and they always either treat me for yeast infections of bacterial infections. I noticed some white stuff on the inside of my vaginal area but I don t think that It s yeast. I ve never been sexually active - but there was an incident when I was a kid where my dog ended up licking me down there. My question was - can you contract an STD from a dog licking your vagina/vaginal area? I always worry about this extensively - I get worried that I somehow got HIV or herpes from this happening! But those are species specific - right? I ve read that humans can t pass these onto dogs so dogs can t pass them to humans? I just worry that Its a viral infection like these and won t have a cure. I also wasn t sure if you could contract something like Chlamidya or Gonerreha or another bacterial STD from this or not? and if the answer to both of these questions are no - what could I possibly have that explains all my symptoms? I have bad anxiety and have always been worried that something bad is wrong from this incident happening. Do you know of anything I could ve possibly gotten a few years ago from my dog licking me in that area that would cause burning, odor, the white stuff, etc? Is an STD possible? I m sorry if this is such an odd question - this has just been going on for years now and I have an appointment Thursday but just wanted to get some knowledge on it and narrow it down and also maybe calm my anxiety and worries a little bit - as you can tell it really worries me! I just want to be sure It can t be anything like HIV or Herpes, and then can it be a bacterial STD or what could it be? Thank you so much, I really appreciate it!

Hello. Thank you for writing to us

I don't think one can get common human STD's like Genital herpes, HIV, Gonorrhea Or Chlamydia from an altogether different species.
Humans are the only carriers of these STD's.
After going through the description I feel that the foul smelling vaginal discharge, stinging/ burning sensation is most likely due to bacterial vaginosis.
Moreover, since you have never been sexually active therefore it is unlikely that the vaginal discharge is the result of an STD.
Bacterial vaginosis is not an STD.
It is due to an alteration of resident vaginal flora and factors like vaginal douching can be responsible.
The routine course of action is to give an oral antibiotic to cover for the most probable causative organisms of bacterial vaginosis
Metronidazole, tinidazole are the drugs of choice in vaginitis due to bacterial vaginosis.
I suggest that you shed you anxieties regarding an STD and visit a doctor for a confirmatory diagnosis.
