Suggest Treatment For Wheezing And Bronchitis In Child

My son has been wheezing a little bit and they are thinking its bronchitis. They are suppose to get back to us with the X-ray results tomorrow. In the meantime, they gave him a Flovent inhaler and a Proventil inhaler. Aren't these both just albuterol inhalers?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello dear,

Wheezing is caused due to broncho-constriction (obstruction of smaller airway passages) which is indicative of Hyper-responsiveness and associated inflammation of air passages.

1. Flovent (pharmacologically Fluticasone) is a cortico-steroid which takes care of the inflammatory process.
2. Proventil (pharmacologically Albuterol) is a bronchodilator which provide symptomatic relief by causing broncho-dilation (dilating the smaller airway passages, relieving the obstruction & increasing airflow to lungs).

So, the inhalers prescribed by his treating Doctor are correct.
Kindly use them as advised.

Further management of the bronchitis will depend on the findings of X ray.

There is no need to worry, your son will be fine.

Wishing him a good health.
Take care.
