Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I have a 1.2 cm uterine polyp that my Dr. wants to remove with surgery. I have had no problems at all. I was adopted and my birth mother died from uterine cancer. I have a 2 ultra sounds since September and the polyp has not changed at all. I have had two gyno drs. tell me to have it removed. My primary dr. said I should not have the surgery...he said why fix it if it is not broke. His opinion was too many unnecessary surgeries are done today. I am fearful of being knocked out so they are going to give me a spinal. The anathesiologist I talked to said I should get a second opinion, which I did. One radiologist told me to do nothing...just watch it. That it had not changed and showed no signs of cancer with the ultra sound they used. I am confused and now do not know if I should have the surgery or not....what is your opinion?
Thanks for consulting the Physicians at HealthCare Magic. I have worked through your case thoroughly, and I can easily realize your health worries. Being your physician, I reassure you not to worry as things will settle down very soon. Polyps need Polypectomy to get cure. But there is Medical treatment that only releives symptoms for the time u r using medicines. Stopping medicines returns the polyps symptoms back. So I never recommend this to my patients like you. Mrdicines are hormones analogs like (progestins; gonadotropin releasing hormone agonists). 2nd is Surgical Treatment. A) Hysteroscopy:- surgical removal of polyp through the hysteroscope. B) Curettage:- again we use hysteroscope and a curette is used to scrape the lining and remove polyp. Very expert hands are needed so that extra scraping is not done accidentally that may lead to uterus rupture. UNFORTUNATELY THERE IS NOTHING THAT WE CAN PREVENT POLYPS TO GROW IN THE FIRST PLACE.
May you get very well soon and have a wonderful time ahead. Please don't forget to give your valuable feedback to help us assist you in a better way.
Regards!
