Suggest Treatment For Upper Respiratory Infection
my nephew has an upper respiratory infections, so his girlfriend, who is a physicians asst, gave him a cortisone shot. His blood pressure skyrocketed and they took him to the er. he is home resting now, but i wonder if she broke the law, i'm not sure if they revealed what they did and could he be in danger.

Yes you are right. She did mistake by giving steroids for upper respiratory tract infection. And steroids can cause shoot up in BP and may trouble patient. Upper respiratory tract infection needs following treatment.
1. Plenty of fluids orally. Avoid oily food which sticks to the throat
2. Voice rest.
3. Antibiotics like azithromycin 500 mg 1 od or levofloxacin 500 mg 1 od.
4. Antihistaminic like levocetrizine 5mg 1 twice daily.
5.painkiller and anti inflammatory drug like paracetamol 500 mg 1 tab twice daily.
Steroids are not at all indicated.
