As I see the details your wife is suffering from chronic ulcerative colitis with frequent relapses and still not under remission. There are a quite a good number of treatment options available, which can be used in systematic step up approach. First you gave to go to a gastroenterologist and get routine blood tests like CBC, ESR and CRP. Please get full length colonoscopy as your wife is already 10 years into illness to assess extent, severity of disease and to rule out malignancy. Various treatment options are - increase the dose of 5 ASA upto 4.8 gm/day - add Predinisolone tablet which is weight based (budesonide may not be much effective if there is predominant left sided colitis) - adding azathioprine - considering biologicals like Infliximab
UC can be controlled. please get evaluated and get correct treatment.
Take care.
