age41 5'9 185lbs medical history iwas diagnosed first with crohns disease in august 2005 then in august2010 after a colonoscopy i was diagnosed with ulcerative colitis ihad an emergency surgery for a perforation in august 2005 as a result had a colostomy bag until 2007, had scar tissue removal in 2006, and had reversal surgery in 2007 my gastroenterologist in florida gave me a color photo after a colonoscopy and showed me many many polyps which to this day have not been removed ive been told because there not cancerous. yet. medications do not seem to help putmy ulcerative colitis in remission any more i know that im at a higher risk to get cancer. also ive read that with acolectomy to remove the large colon the diease is effectively gone im tired of taking all the medications with the side effects etc... is a colectomy a cure? can i ask my dr. to perform one ?

Hello dear

Warm welcome to Healthcaremagic.com
I have evaluated your query in details .

* The ulcerative colitis is a notorious issue involving different
segments of the large and small bowels .
* Even after colectomy , it is not sure that you will not get any issue
of the intestine in future , best possible way is to control with
dietary factors , life style modifications .

* Surgery as last resort .

Hope this will help to clear your doubt .
Wishing you fine recovery .

Regards .
