Suggest Treatment For Ulcerative Colitis

Hi. My husband is on lialda for ulcerative colitis/ crohns. He got the flu vaccine today. He is having bad abdominal cramping and diarrhea in addition to sweats and chills. Could these be related? Is this something to be concerned about? What can he do to help himself?

Hi,
In some cases of IBD (inflammatory bowel disease- ulcerative colitis/crohns disease), there might be a flare up of the disease after flu shot. But this may be self limiting also. I would advice your husband to continue lialda (mesalamine). If the symptoms are not resolving or if it is severe, I would suggest you to consult your gastroenterologist. Hope the above information helps you. Thanks.
