Suggest Treatment For Trigonocephaly And Speech Delay In A Child

HI,I have a 22 month old son with speech delay. his motor skills are exceptional and has no other developmental delays. We first noticed a very very mild ridge when he was 3 months
His fontella closed normally during 17-18th month and since then we noticed that the suture closed as a ridge. I am toally panicking. Not sure if this is cosmetic or has some major problem underneath. Also we suspect he might have mild trigonocephaly, as his head is broader at back and smaller near forehead. is surgery an option for 22 month old?

Hi
Welcome to the HCM

A prominent ridge along the forehead by itself is often a normal finding, but children with metopic synostosis from premature fusing of the metopic suture have a triangular shape to the forehead. To summarize with metopic synostosis:

-They have a noticeable ridge along their foreheads.
-They will also have a pointed, almost triangular shape to the front and top of their skulls and eyes that appear too close together.

As with any type of craniosynostosis, metopic synostosis can carry a risk of other complications … but it’s important to remember that every child is different, and the condition can vary widely in its severity.

Children with just a ridge or mild metopic synostosis don’t need any medical treatment.
